Sakordie – Borga (Official Video)

SARKODIESakordie finally shot a video for the  song that many would argue is his biggest hit. The video was very. It was songs like’ Boga’ that brought the Tema rapper aka “The Twista of Ghana” to stardom. He recently sign with US based record label Konvict Records, partly owned by Akon.

STATE OF THE NATION ADDRESS 2010

MillsSTATE OF THE NATION ADDRESS BY HIS EXCELLENCY JOHN EVANS ATTA MILLS PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF GHANA

INTRODUCTION

Madam Speaker, Vice President, Honourable Members of the House,

Just over a year ago, the citizens of Ghana elected this Government to take over the administration of our beloved country.

They elected us because we promised an Agenda of Change for a better Ghana – Change that would advance the cause of democracy and renew our faith in the future of this country even as we take on a new set of development challenges.

As part of that challenge, I made a commitment to do away with the style of politics that mistook democratic transfer of power as an opportunity to wreak vengeance.

I made a commitment to take a different political path to strengthen belief in ourselves and in our nation – the kind of belief exemplified by those gallant players of the Black Stars who did us proud in the Africa cup of Nations finals in Angola.

I am confident they will reach for the stars at the World Cup tournament in South Africa in June 2010.

I also wish to salute the Black Satellites who took on the mighty Brazil in the finals of the World Under-20 Football Tournament and beat them with 10 men against 11 to bring home the cup.

And how can we forget the exploits of our gallant local players who fought all the way to the finals of the maiden CHAN tournament in Cote d’Ivoire and returned home with the silver?

Ghana football is on the ascendancy and like our footballers, we, as Ghanaians, should also believe in Ghana and in ourselves, and I don’t mind if I am plagiarising somebody’s campaign slogan.

Madam Speaker,

In my ‘State of the Nation’ Address last year, I promised to create an atmosphere of inclusiveness, respect and courtesy in our national discussion and debate.

Muntari, Tagoe and Kingston Return For Ghana

kingstonGermany-based striker Prince Tagoe will return to the Ghana national team next week in trhe friendly against Bosnia after a nine-month absence.

Also returning to the Black Stars are Inter Milan midfielder Sulley Muntari and Scotland-based Laryea Kingston. The trio are part of a 20-man squad named by Serbian coach Milovan Rajevac for the 3 March World Cup warm-up in Sarajevo. The rest of players in the team were part of the squad that excelled at the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Angola.

A notable absentee is Opoku Agyemang who has been ruled out of the World Cup because of a hamstring injury. Tagoe has not played for the Black Stars since he helped steer Ghana for their World Cup place after winning their two away matches against Mali and Sudan in June last year.

He joined Hoffenheim a month later but a fictitious heart report cast doubt over his playing future before subsequent reports cleared him to continue with his career. Tagoe, who has been one of the top scorers for Ghana, has recovered and has even excelled for Hoffenheim in the some matches he has played for the Bundesliga side.

AO Gorman – Aspiring Artist From Toronto, Canada

youngao
Albert Okwasi Gorman will be known in the music industry as Young AO. He is the Ghana-born, Toronto-raised rapper who has been consistently on his grind, both in and out of his hometown for the past few years. Now preparing to release another mix-tape this spring titled, ‘Sky High’, he remains focused on the bigger picture- his official album release, executive-produced by one Toronto’s elite beat makers, T-Nyce. He’s in a good position; currently riding of the hype of his well received ‘Ready for Takeoff’ mix-tape that dropped last year which spawned the popular ‘Ryderz Remix’ featuring Chubbz, OG, Jonny Roxx, Jaydahmann & Frankie Payne (produced by T-Nyce).

At a young age he experienced the break-up of his family unit and briefly lived in a shelter with his mother & step-brother. More than a decade later, he is once again a witness to the dissolve of yet another tight circle – his family unit with the friends with whom he originally formed an entertainment company, Topflight Entertainment. Determined to keep it moving, he traveled to his home country last year where he left an impressionable impact.

He collaborated with hit makers of “Lyk Father Lyk Son” (Konfi Muzuk), one of the most popular tracks circulating on the Ghana airwaves in the summer of 2009. They recorded the song “Yewo Town” which he describes is his home-town as a “street anthem”. Due to the success of the single, he was featured on Ghanacelebrities.com; a popular website which highlights Ghanaian talent, locally and abroad.

Still making appearances in and around Toronto, as well as over-seas, he is featured on DJ Flacco’s “Come Up” mix-tape and Slip & Slide’s DJ Swiss Ivory’s mix-tape “The Showcase Mix-tape Vol. 58″. He’s on the right track to achieving his 5 year goal of becoming an international artist. He is embracing changes in his life as he matures. “I was raised in the hood so I still have those experiences to convey in my music, but as I grow I feel more comfortable being able to talk about new topics such as world & political issues. Also, doing mix-tapes allows me to experiment with different new sounds & styles”. Keep your eyes & ears on Young AO because you never know where he’ll end up next.

Ex-President Kufuor: Africa’s Best President?

kuffour1 (2)The Kufuor Foundation claims that former President J.A Kufuor is Africa’s best President ever. The claim is contained in a document made available to Executives ad Staff of the African Development Bank at a meeting in Tunisia recently.

Former President Kufuor is seeking a grant of US$1.5 million for his Foundation from the ADB. The document states categorically that “President Kufuor built an impeccable record on governance, unrivalled in Ghana and on the African continent.”

The Foundation rates former President Kufuor above Osagyefor Dr. Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana, Nelson Mandela of South Africa and Abdul Gamal Nasser of Egypt. The document lists former President Kufuor’s achievements as follows;

Poverty & Hunger

*People living on one dollar a day or less has declined from 45.9 per cent to 41.1 per cent since 1999.

*The number of extreme poor has increased only 296 million in 1999 to 298 million in 2004.

‘A Sting In A Tale’ – Ghana Film Review

Fast growing Ghanaian film writer/producer/director  Shirley Frimpong-Manso decided to include the most glamorous ghosts yet out of Africa in her much anticipated fourth production, ‘A Sting In A Tale’. And for me, this very much represented the general feel-good theme of the movie; it is one for laughs and not taking life too seriously.

Sting-In-A-TaleFrom the trailer and synopsis that floated around before the premiere, it was clear that the movie would be full of twists and turns just in case the title was not suggestive enough. So how well was Shirley able to pull it off? I will get to that in a moment.
A Sting in a Tale’ revolves around two young couples in their quest to survive the harsh realities of life after university; unemployment, uncertainty, desperation and in the middle of it all, love. Young graduate, Kuuku (Adjetey Anang) is frustrated with unemployment and is faced with the possibility of losing his true love Frema(Lydia Forson) because Frema’s mother (Doris Sacketey)sees no good future in that relationship. With these pressures, Kuuku moves heaven and earth trying to find a good job and a means to provide the future he so desperately seeks for himself, his future wife and kids. He takes the most drastic measure by resorting to rituals and soon after that, his Frema passes away. After her death, Kuuku gets a well paying job and becomes a millionaire almost overnight.
